Rear Shock

A question for you knowledgable people! I have a 2006 marin rift zone and the rear shock when I am sat on the bike is down to the maximum travel permanently. I have set sag etc, checked there is still pressure in there and believe that I have this set correctly according to the manual. When I get off the bike it does return back to the usual travel posistion but REALLY slowly

1. Can I fit a bigger travel shock to this frame than the float RP23? should this be a knackered one?

2. Could the seals be knackered on the shock and that is why this is happening (i bought the bike second hand so dont know about servicing etc - I have done it and they looked ok but its the first time I have had a full suss so I could be wrong)

3. Am I too heavy for this bike at 14 stone with that amount of travel!!!!!! thought I would ask what with the bike being cross country inspired and me not being the lightest of people!!!!!!!

Cheers in advance

Daz

sorry you are not making sense.

if you have set the sag then when you sit on the bike that is where the shock should be.

Sag is setting the shocks air pressure so that when the rider is on the bike in riding gear and normal riding position the sag should be X% (about 20% here).

So if you HAVE set the sag correctly then when you sit on the bike you should get about the same position (maybe a tad more)

slow return is too much rebound.

    you are not too heavy.

Thanks Nicklouse maybe I have not got this correct then as when I sit on the thing it hits the bottom of the travel instantly and stays there until I get off the bike again and then it crawls back up (which will be the rebound i understand that one now cheers!)

    Thanks for the tips

Phew glad am not too heavy I love the bke and didnt wanna get rid of it!!

There was 150 PSI in there so should I need any more than this in it?

By the way it was a float R not a rp23 not sure if this make a difference

you need as much air as is needed to give you the 20% there is no figure.

if you have too much sag add more air.
