I am struggling to decide which one I am into at the moment. Union was my first Rugby experience, but damn that "Superleague" is fast and furious and exciting...

i know the superleague game flows a lot faster, with less of the stoppy starty, but for me the tactical union game is better.Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.
H.G. Wells.0 -
There is more of a tactical element, but all that slowing down in the rolling maul (or whatever it is called) is less interesting to watch than the flowing ball through hands stuff of the League version.
I suppose it is ok to like both ?0 -
Union is definately the more tactical and technical game and in my view, for those reasons, the greatest team sport there is.0

I'm a union man myself. I appreciate League and will watch the odd game but I think Union has more variety and interest. You do get dull games of course. As with any sport.0

Jason Robinson has gone back to it...0

North Vs South question a bit there
I grew up playing Union and it's a better more rounded game imo. league is too much like american football.Purveyor of sonic doom
Very Hairy Roadie - FCN 4
Fixed Pista- FCN 5
Beared Bromptonite - FCN 140 -
I voted league.
I just don't get union - what's with all the ploughing in and lying on top of each other?0 -
Are you saying there is some Homero work at play here?0

It goes back to those public schools where Union is played0 -
I don't know the rules of union and only vaguely know something about league, but when I've watched league someone gets tackled and the players get up pretty much straight away and play continues. With Union, someone gets tackled and you just get a pile up of bodies for a bit. Quite nice to watch all those fiit bods on top of each other but I do wonder kind of a sport is this?
How did they come up with the rules? Harry and Mr Noir are on to something0 -
No contest..league aaargh..the reason why the decline in welsh rugby became an avalanche in the early nineties and carried on until the game became professional...0

Most of the time in league the tackling player will lie on the tackled player for a few seconds to slow the opposition from playing the ball. This delay from the tackler, gives precious time for his defence to get into position ready for the next passage of play.
So in League, they lie on each on purpose. In Union they only pile up on the floor because they've knocked off their feet.
I don't find League too interesting. All it is run, tackle, run, tackle, run, tackle, run, tackle, run, tackle, kick, and then the opposition repeat until eventually someone scores. At least in Union you are allowed to compete for the ball, after a tackle.0 -

He has not gone back to play, just as an ambassador.
I played union for years from a young age.
When played "correctly" it is more exciting than league.
Unfortunately for the last few years, due to certain teams ( England for example ) learned that b utilising league coaches, they could stifle oponents by "spread" defending and rely on panalties to win. Union has 15 players, league 13 so when you only commit minimum numbers to rucks and mauls if really minimises attacking chances, this makes it bloody boring to watch though.
England managed to win th eworld cup playing this method but it hardly looks entertaining to none "rugby" viewers who probably get bored stiff watching.
I actually enjoy watching league and it is more consistent for entertainment, union is a bit hit or miss.
I do enjoy watching the super 14 who definately play attacking rugby, contrast to Guniess league.
NZ, France, South Africa and sometimes Wales normally provide decent entertainment value in games so I enjoy watching those teams.0 -
Exciting attacking rugby, last time the grand slam came around:

Hopefully we'll get the same tomorrow.0
