Just need advice on new bike I have a Kona Lanai HT and have been riding for a few years now my mates I ride with have all upgraded to FS ( Santa cruz, Trek etc)Although I still keep up with them (sometimes quicker up hill!!)I have a limited budget £500-£700 Max do I go for another Ht or secondhand FS (Ebay) or a discounted FS from the internet. I have seen a Giant Trance 3 and Kona Kikapu deluxe in my budget on a couple of sites. Also the local bike shop does Merida and they have a good priced long travel hardtail range. Please help any advice would be good!

For that budget, cant beat a good hardtail. They have moved on leaps and bounds since the days of your lana'i, some really quality light stuff.

If you can keep up with your mates, anyway stick to the hardtail.

Take a look at the Merlin Malts, aswell as the normal suspects like GT Avalanche,Spesh Rockhopper,Giant XTC,Trek 6000,6300 and so on.

Might also be woth a look at the Boardman bikes in Halfords. They are extremely well specced for the money.

Lots of good bikes at this kind of money, and most of them are good. Its as much personal preference that you will base your judgement, which is why there in no alternative to actually going to a few shops and trying a few.
