I've just got the Haynes bike book which I really quite like, but I'm a total newbie so I wanted a book that took me through it in baby steps right from the very basics.

I think I read that Zinn's books are the industry standard.

before buying any books check out parktools and sheldons webbys as everything you may need is there. you can then have more of an idea of what you want from a book.

Found haynes too simplistic, Zinns a lot better.

Theres plenty of info online tho.

Don't forget sites like shimano generally have the original fitting/adjustment instructions ready as downloadable docs.

My bike came with STI levers and sora derailleur - no paperwork. Soon got it off the web.

If you do get your info online, print it out, as well as everything you think you'll need...Bringing bits into the lounge, or trying to use a laptop with oily fingers really isn't an option
