Focus Cayo Expert 2008 or Cube Agree GTC Race Compact 2008

Hi I am new to road cycling but an experienced tourer, I want to get into the more competitive side of cycling. I dont have loads to spend and have been browsing models for a few months now, I have up to £1500 to spend.
I have found 2 bikes that I like the look of, the Focus Cayo Expert 2008 and the Cube Agree GTC race compact. Does anyone have an idea of how either of these rides? Or another bike in a similar price range that might be worth a look?
