    Hi Matt,

Ok, what V brakes are they, and levers? Standard cables? Usual options are checking the set up and cables, replacing pads, cleaning the rim or adding a brake booster that stops the bosses flexing outwards.

Txt tlk not needed here ;-)

Ayway, usualy you start with just cleaning the rims and break pads to get any grease off, if that dosnt work then you should try and tention up the cable to pull the pads nearer the rims, this should give a bit more power on the brakes (usualy)

Or just buy some new ones if there shot..

  • When u pull the rear brake check if the frame flexes. If it does flex then a brake booster will stiffen it up and give u a much better feel and power. I had this on my old Azonic, could notice the difference straightaway.

As for the front, i doubt this will flex so just make sure its all adjusted nicely and the pads hit with a bit of toe in. And get the pads set uo close to the rims, about 2mm either side should do it.
  • These are better than Vs IMO,and for not a lot of money.

I upgraded from Avid Vs on my Trek to these and the difference was amazing.
Not sure of your budget (if any),but these are fairly cheap and well worth it if discs aren't an option.

might as well get discs. i don't see the point in magura's these days.

They are incredibly powerful in the dry, and a good option if you cant fit discs. Still the chocie of trials riders due to the way they clamp the wheel.

IMHO the Maguras give you all the hassle of hydraulics with the rim wear and mud / pad problems associated with V's, plus in my experience they are a b*gger to setup properly. Personally I would rather stick with V's (I replaced my Maguras with LX V's and never looked back) or upgrade to discs if possible.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

    they're

    Sorry, couldn't resist.
  • when i ran vs, even when the wheels weren't noticably out of true, just a quick true from a bike shop can allow you to move your pads that much closer to the rim so modulation => braking force is greatly increased which I think doubled my braking power
    Train hard, ride easy
