Mavic Xm117 ?

My brother has had his back wheel of his Carrera Kraken stolen from outside the train station over the weekend,he has been offered a tidy looking second hand Mavic XM 117 rear wheel for £20 with a Deore hub but I cant seem to find any info on this rim ??

    It's an OEM rim, which is not normally available in the shops, it's usually only found on complete bikes.

    For £20 it's not a bad price, but how much abuse has it had? is the rim true & are the hub bearings in good condition.

    In the long run it might be better to buy a new wheelset (~£100 from Merlin) and keep the old front wheel as a spare.

    Do you think it will cope with normal XC use for a while as he is too skint to buy a new wheelset ?

    Yeah it's an XC/All mountain rim, so it'll cope, provided it's in good nick & been built well.
