Converted roadie here.
I bought a Carrera Kraken as an entry bike just to see if I liked the sport and I do!
Bike is actually not that bad but the wheels weigh a ton.
I have built wheels all my life but haven't a clue about MTB components.
I don't want to spend a fortune, just want utility with an eyeletted (disc) rim.
Any suggestions?

Mavic XC 717 Disc on a Hope Pro 2 (you will need a cassette with a carrier Eg XT and above due to the alloy free body)
But first i would play with lighter tyres and tubes."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Shimano 6 bolt disc hub: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=3987 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=3986 with mavic rim : http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=3440 £100 not including spokes or nipples. or just get some of these: http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/?fn=produ ... egoryId=99 £100 for the full wheelset.
If you want to spend more, Hope Pro II hubs & Mavic XC717 rims.0 -
Merlin built Mavic 717 on XT hub - I think it comes in at £110 for a pair."Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." ~James E. Starrs0
