Can't Decide!!
Quirky
Posts: 123
I've been riding a decent hardtail for about a year and a half now and I think it's time to move on.
My problem is, I really can't decide what to get, another HT or a Full susser. The 2 bikes I have in mind are, Marin Rocky Ridge and the Spesh Pitch Pro. I love both of these but don't know what would be better.
I mainly ride trail centres, red/black grade trails, and also like to have a bit of fun on the likes of Glentress's freeride park!
Any suggestions folks?

How about buying the FS and keeping your current HT as a second bike if you feel its decent enough.
Best of both worlds then0 -
I would love to do that and it would solve my problem, however to afford the FS I'll be selling my HT, could keep it and buy the Marin but no point in having 2 HT's0

any reason why you'd go for that over the Spesh0

I think FS bike with 5 inch of travel at either end. Dont want too much, or it will be a world away from the HT you are used to, and heavy.0

Because it is a gorgeous bike and I prefer hardtails.0

Supersonic - whats the first FS that comes to mind that you'd recomend?
Ride whenever - Your right, the Marin is stunning0 -
Get the Rocky Ridge, it will last longer than a full suss, need less maintenance and costs less.
plus I own one0 -
GT Idrive 5.0 or XCR0

GT Idrive 5 2.0 or XCR0

God1406 - You got any pics mate?
Will have a look at those SS0 -
I can highly recommend the pitch, top notch for trail centres and the like0

Quirky- I wrote a very long post out last night only to have my excellent computer freeze a few seconds before submitting it
Second attempt:
The Rocky Ridge is excellent, I've had it on 6 hour rides in the Peak district, and taken it over the small local jumps a few times. It's confidence inspiring to have 140mm Vanilla's upfront, especially with a 2.3in front tyre. It weighs about 30lb and can be tough work uphill, but I've ridden my dad's Eldridge Grade (much lighter) on the same trails and honestly your fitness is a lot more important than the bike's weight...
I'm 6ft and the medium fits me just right.
if you've got any more questions then ask away!
EDIT: I've been put off full suss bikes after my last one became an inefficient, squeeking mess once the pivots wore out and I couldn't get any replacements... Hardtails have a bit less to go wrong or become out of date.0 -
Commencal Meta 3?0

After spending a LOT of time thinking about this, I think I'm finally edging towards the Marin. Reading various reviews, it's purpose built for the kind of riding I do, it's a really nice looking bike and I'd be saving myself some cash that would be well spent on some new gear. I think while writing this I've realised that I've actually made my mind up.
Just have to wait until payday now
God1406 - I've sent you a PM0 -
I've now put a deposit down on a Rocky Ridge, will be picking it up in 2 weeks!!0
-
Its gonna be a LONG 2 weeks.
I'm off to test a Rockhopper Pro later, so depending how it is, i'll of decided between that or a GT Zaskar sometime today, but will also be waiting 2 weeks to actually pick it up :?0 -
Nice one, I was lookin at the Rocky Ridge or an Orange Crush....sold out in the end and bought a Meta 5.5 after it seduced me on a test ride lol.
Good luck with the Marin, I'm sure you'll love itPaul B
