changed stem

just changed my stem...but now got a little play through the headset/forks...what have i done wrong?
replaced old stem but play still there!

    Did you tighten the bearing preload via the topcap before tightening the stem cinch bolts? I think not.

    You didn't apply enough load to the headset before tightening the stem bolts up.

    Loosen the stem bolts, apply weight to the top tube need the headset, tighten topcap and tighten stem bolts while keeping weight on the top tube.

    let me get this straight....i loosen bolts on stem,remove top pin and apply downward pressure as i retighten the top cap?then tighten the stem bolts...still under downward pressure?

    Basically. But don't remove the top pin (whatever you mean by that). Nothing needs removing.

    Nope, you don't need to take the stem off. The stem can stay on the steerer.
