Hi everyone! Bought myself my first bike in years yesterday and thought I'd register as you all seem like a friendly bunch!
I'm in desperate need of shifting a bit of weight and getting fit so figured that as I enjoyed biking when I was a kid it would be something I could get into fairly easily again. So after a bit of research I plumped for the Orange G2 - which I must say I'm very impressed with.
Two things I did notice after going on a short (6 mile ride) yesterday are a) just how unfit I am! and b) it hurts your back side! I've got a SDG Bel Air saddle. Is this something that will ease up over time or is there anything I can do to make it more comfortable? Are those padded shorts worth it? I was going to go for another ride today but not sure could bare it!
Cheers

hiya,
cycling shorts are a must buy really they definetly help and seat position is important too, make sure your actual sit bones are on the padding of the saddle so you ar'nt sitting too far forward on it so move the saddle forward if you need to. saddle angle is worth experimenting with also start with the saddle flat then try a ride with it a degree or two nose down and see how you get on with that.
what can help when you're riding is to actually get off the saddle so when you start getting a little numb down there stand up on the bike and pedal standing up for awile to get the blood flow back or on descents just lift yourself slighlty up off the saddle. after awile your backside will get more used to it though but if it does'nt then it's new saddle time.0 -
Cool - thanks
I'll have an experiment later. There's so many variables that make such a difference - it'll take me ages to get it right!0 -
I cant believe I have ridden for so long without padded shorts, they easily add 10 miles for me before my bum really starts to hurt.Oohhh me legs hurt !!0
