Anyone going out tomorrow?

This weather forum thread about the possible storm tomorrow makes interesting reading. Might not even go out in the car.

Sunshine, blue skies and a light wind here in South Staffs. Better get out on the bike before the gathering storm hits.I'll report back on how things go. If there is no post by first light, send out the search and Rescue Team

I'll probably be commuting as usual, unless the severe weather warning is extended to cover this area in which case I'll wimp out and borrow Darling Wifeys car. Rain, snow, sleet and flooding don't stop me but I draw the line at high winds, too dangerous!

I've already chickened out of tomorrow. Instead went out first thing this mornnig and did 60K. Might get the turbo out later just for a little spin to get rid of the stiffness.

I commute kinda ESE in and WNW home. Would n't mind the mornnig trip in with 50 mph trialing wind but coming home could be a nightmare.

It is very very windy out there now. Yep, I'm off to work :D
  • just g ot in from my 20 mile commute. Decided not to do the 25 mile route in. Quite windy and a bit of rain. In safe and now its got nasty!

there are benefits to leaving for work at 4.50am - too early even for the weather to be out!

Well, I wimped out. I draw the line at severe weather warnings, no point being masochistic!

Last time I followed severe weather warning advice I went on the bus to work. It was a waste of £6 as there was no bloody bad weather.

So today I ignored the advice, and, guess what, no bad weather. I'm glad I went on the bike.

All these warnings are a waste of space. A little bit wet and a little bit windy is not a storm.

You're probably right, but high winds scare me! It's the thought of a gust knocking me two feet sideways just as some twunt in a Land Cruiser gives me eighteen inches of space...

Plus, my Darling Wifey wasn't very keen on me cycle commuting originally. In order to get her agreement to me doing it at all I had to promise I'd a) always wear a helmet and b) not ride if there was a severe weather warning for the North West. So the decision's been taken by a higher authority in my case!

It's not that bad in Plymouth yet, though they are saying that it's meant to be bad all week.

Did only 40 miles yesterday and got caught by a hailstone shower towards the end of the ride. Is hailstones the worst weather for cycling? It certainly hurts your face!

same here, I was nearly blown off my feet on the way to the tram... on a bike I'd have been either:
Flung along at the speed of sound
    brought to a standstill
    sidewind straight under a car

still gutted I didn't cycle but discretion and all that sometimes is the best policy

Well, its howling here in West Wales. Trees down, high tides and winds have pushed water and debris over the roads so they got it right. I think Cornwall and the south West has it bad too.

  • wind and rain all day on and off. Was pretty cold and rainy on the way home tonight but not as windy as it has been before. Has just started to get nasty again though.

Tomorrows going to be naf aswell. Annoyed cos it cuts down my ride from 25 to 10 miles on the way in and this was supposed to be a 40+ a day commute week
