Claud Butler Levante...opinions please?

My mate is going to try commuting to work. He would have a 7 mile e/w journey on mainly busy South East London roads running parallel to the Thames to London Bridge. Just a few gentle rises here and there, nothing too strenuous. He has a couple of bikes in mind but on looks alone likes the Levante. Would this be a good choice? He mentioned that he can get the price down to about £285 but I suspect this may be a 2007 model, as as far as I know the 2008 is about £360. Or could he do a lot better for the money?
