Taking spare pair of inner shorts for return leg

Just been reading another post about jock itch, and prevention - showering straight after ride, and change shorts. I am considering starting commuting to work, which is a 15 mile each way. Having a shower at the work end is no problem, but having to take another pair of shorts for the return leg is a bit of a pain. Do others do this, or will the single pair of shorts be ok for a day?

I do a single pair of shorts (These ones) and what's more I only wash them about every four weeks (uuurrch!). I do 22 miles a day.
I think drying yourself very well is the key, use a hair drier if you have one available.
I will say though these endura shorts have split along the seam down the front it's holding together so they're still useable, but I'm seriously annoyed considering they were 30 quid and am just about to write to them.[/url]0 -
I use same pair each way. But I keep a cheaper spare pair at work, incase my mains get too soaked in the rain0

46 mile commute a day and I wear up to two pairs of shorts for the week. I wear full lycra to work and then change into work uniform after a lovely hot shower.
What makes a real difference is the use of a cream prior to putting on my shorts.
I started using ASSOS CREAM but that works out a tad expensive after a while. I then learnt that audax riders use a much cheaper cream available from Boots for £.129 called CONOTRANE and if you can put up with the geranium smell - it is very very good.
So, use the same shorts all you like but add a dash of cream to your perineum and you will be just fine0 -

I use the same pair for a couple of days, on the basis I only have them on for half an hour at a time and I only wear them if it's raining.* I think it helps to leave them inside out somewhere they can dry properly, but I don't tend to push myself to the "gushing with sweat" point on the commute anyway!
*If it's not raining I just wear normal boxers and my work trousers, since it's only seven miles. When it's raining I figure I have to get changed anyway so I might as well have the padding!Even if the voices aren't real, they have some very good ideas.0 -
If you have a place to air the shorts then using the same pair for both journeys should be no problem Paul. I commute 17 miles each way. Worst case is having to put on a damp pair of shorts/tights for the journey home. Intially awful - but when everything warms up you don't notice.
I wouldn't recommend pj45's approach though. No wonder the seams are coming apart0 -
Hehe, cheers all. Looking forward to the start of commuting now. Just not looking forward to getting up an hour earlier or so.0

Well, either I'm a freak or you're a freak. Or maybe normality is somewhere in the middle.0 -
I use the endura undershorts. They are like boxer shorts (the stretchy kind) with a pad in. I just wear them all day... But they are really just PANTS.0

You with your over regular cleaning regime, and me with my don't bother one.
Of course, if you washed yours once every two weeks that'd be over regular to me.
I'm starting to realise why so many people seem to fall off their cycle after I've passed them...0 -
I agree that using some cream to prevent bacteria multiplying too much is a good plan.
I use the same shorts morning and evening, but don't have problems as long as I use some antiseptic cream of some kind. If I forget it, chances of a saddle sore increase dramatically. I've tried Assos cream, antiseptic cream (like savalon) and vaseline combo and nappy cream. All work. I reckon the best could be the nappy cream - really effective and cheap, but it doesn't wash out well.0
