SPDs, Cleats and Fitting

I've got a pair of 661 Launch that are battered to bits.
I've also just got hold of a pair of crank bros candys...
I haven't got cleats.
and 1 of the plates in the Shoes has been misplaced.
Now obviously in order to use the pedals I need cleats.
But in order to fit them one of the shoes needs the plate replacing.
So,
1. There's a dizzying array of cleats, is there anyting specific i need to be looking at?
2. Short of buying a new pair of shoes, Is there any way I can find replacement plates for them?
Thanks

cleats come with the pedals. Find out where they are.
plates can be got from any seller of the shoe brand.

I say stop by your local bike shop and check with them. They'll be able to tell ya which brand ya want, and can replace the parts ya need replaced. Cleats are a DIY installation if you have a screwdriver or hex wrench, cant remember which one is needed.2007 Fuji Newest 3.0.

Wow, ive just happened apon this thread!
Ive just bought a pair of 661 launch spd shoes in the hope to use them with my uncals bike to try out spd's.
Hence i do have shoes and pedals but no cleats. Only additional diffrence is i have no idea what pedals my uncal has. I thought they where all a stanard fitting. Clearly not!!
I guess i'll have to ask him what pedals he has then? Unless his cleats (dont know what shoes he has, spesh, i think) would fit onto my new 661's ?
Basicaly i'd just like to try spd's before i buy them, but my feet are 12/13's and i dont know anyone else with that size feet!0 -
Make sure you use the right cleats with the right pedals, ie Shimano with Shimano. When SPD type pedals first came out there were other brands that looked similar till you clipped in and couldn't unclip. You were locked in and the only way out was a dismantle of pedal.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0
