I have been in 'tentative talks' with LBS about getting some 2007 RockShox Sid World Cup Dual Air forks....

My IFT has 100mm forks on it at the moment - do you think that 20mm drop in travel will matter much?

I guess crown to axle distance is what matters but should be the same but to be honest 80mm is more than enough travel as I never even use 30% of my 100mm as it is..

Also - I presume I can remove those V-brake bosses......

Not sure about the rest of your post, but of course you can remove the V bosses from the fork....12mm IIRC.
There's plenty of blanking bolts out there for frames and forks, but Hope do the whole colour thing

frame? current fork? and if it is the SID with the 28mm staintions dont bother get the rebas.

why? the SIDs are just not worth it. they are just poor..

It was either the SID or the Magura Durins which have been getting good reviews and are cheaper, nothing wrong with the Fox, just fancied a change (plus I can sell the fox to recover half of the cost) fancied lowering the front end of my rig a touch (travel wise)

    Are SID that bad then?

if the old 28mm staintioned ones then very regular services. i have known people needing services after each race and V's are better than discs as V's cope with the oil leakage better.

The fox have been great but I want to try something different to be honest - preferably 80mm as I am not even use 100mm to it's limit

As I said they (Fox) have been great ..... set to 15% sag they are top-drawer as I like them quite stiff up front and I don't do anything too heavy on that bike.........

Should just save money towards the new frame - NOT new forks - can't leave it alone.

I'd wait for the new SID, or if you want to lose some weight, the newer Manitou R7.

Fox do a custom F80 for OEM, and these sometimes come up on eBay as people sell them because they want to upgrade to 100mm or are breaking a bike.

I've got a pair of fox 80 rl's on the front of my litespeed, I can't notice the 20mm less travel on the fron of that against the 100mm travel on the front of my scott (excatly the same fork but 100mm travel). But then again the new sids are at least 150g lighter and I kind of like the look of them... decisions decisions :?
