Shimano chain and derallieur with SRAM casstte?

Hi there!
After months of riding my saracen with the awful original cranks and gears i have decided to upgrade to full shimano XT gears and cranks.
Being a student and only having a weekend job i cant afford to buy a 9 speed hub at the moment.
Is it possible to use the back wheel of my santa cruz (hope pro2 with SRAM PG990 9 speed cassette) with the XT M760 derallieur and HG93 chain?

Think it will be fine, but the rule is that when you change a cassette or a chain, you change them in pairs to synchronise their wear. Chances are your chain and cassette are worn at a different amount, so replace the cassette or chain anyhow, or it will just wear the other component double speed.0

Well im only hoping to use the SRAM cassette for a couple of weeks, till i can get a new cassette and hub.0
