Hello,

I am fat. But I used to love mountain biking back when Girvin Flexstems were considered innovative, Mint Sauce strips quoted Morrissey lyrics, accessories were anodized purple, and Kona had bike names you could pronounce.

I'm desperate to meet some fellow MTBers for some weekend rides, basically anywhere within a 10-15 mile radius of Purley, South Croydon.

I've only just moved here, so I don't know anyone, and my bike is in a bit of a bad way so could also use the loan of some tools and a garage to get it shipshape.

I am having one of those "If I don't get back into it now, I never will" complexes which I'm sure a few people my age and older can relate to. I need to embrace head on and get riding again as soon as possible.

I'm pretty unfit so I'm not looking for people that are gonna leave me in their dust the second we set off. Looking for some people in a similar situation for relaxed riding, maybe stopping for lunch, etc etc.

Please help!

Damn, you just missed me. I Iived in Purley for a while and then moved to Croydon but recently moved to Cape Town, South Africa.

I looked for good xc/jump trails but to no prevail - I didnt really know anyone so was just kind of scouting by myself. Good luck finding like minded helpful and friendly people that can lead you to some good spots :D

I live in Wallington, some interesting training can be had on the Roundshaw playing Fields, up in the wooded areas. Otherwise you can cycle up to Oaks Park and go around the horse tracks up there. A good bit of fitness is to combine the two in one go. Plenty of hills on some of the roads too.

I live in South Croydon, also 30, also fat ;)

I'm not really into off-road riding (just got a cheap hybrid) but if you fancy some general distance/calorie burning type riding on roads then I'd be up for meeting and working out some routes.

I'm in Colliers Wood, so not too far away. Have been contemplating the idea of doing some off road loops around Dorking (Leith Hill, etc) area, as found in a mag a few months back.

Most of my recent riding has been on road (commuting, weekend rides) but hoping to get off road in the next few weeks. If you're about and fancy a leisurely run out then get in touch.

Prob not so much help on the maintenance front tbh - limited tools, no garage, limited ability! I just tend to throw money at the Moose Cycles boys!!

great start to a thread :)
  • Damn, I totally forgot I'd made this thread.

I'm in a mad rush right now, but I will be in touch shortly with those that were up for a ride.

    Thanks for all responses.

  • Just stumbled across this thread.
I'm in Beddington and just got myself a new bike this week.

I ride around the Oaks Park. There's not much to see but circle the park, ride up the side of the golf course and you can cycle past the stables at the back, up towards Belmont Downs past the prison and you can loop back to the park. Its about 7 miles and I'm doing this to build up a bit of fitness before I tackle something more challenging.

When I'm back up to speed and next get some days off in the week I'm off to Bewl Water and Bedgebury both down in Kent.

By all accounts Leith Hill has some good routes and that's a quick train ride to Dorking or 1/2 hour in the car.I've yet to try them but they are on my list of things to do
