I'm readjusting the Tektro IO mechanical disc brake's on my bro's new Avalanche 3.0, the front i have sorted fine but the rear i'm having trouble with, the movable caliper pad is rubbing against the disc and i can not seem to move it away from the disc, i completely disconnected the cable from the disc so that the arm the cable connects to is fully open but the pad has not come back and is still touching the rotor.

I've have checked the manual and it doesn't seem to mention hove to set the pad back further.

There is usually some form of adjustment on the calliper to adjust the pads, usually in the form of an hex socket. Attach the cable to the arm and loosen the bolts that mount the calliper to the bracket that gives you side-side movement. Pull the brake lever and hold it. Now do uo the bolts tou've just loosened. Now adjust the pads.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

You can download the manual from here which has instructions on how to adjust the brakes.

You need to move the whole cailper, its sounds.

I found that pad wear on these brakes was usually uneven. If all other usual adjustments fail I had success simply swapping the pads around. best adjustment you could make with these brakes though, is toditch them as soon as financially possibleand buy some hydraulics.
