MTB: Hard Tail or Full Sys? Super Bud vs Merlin

I need to make a decision soon about my next bike.
I've been riding a couple of months now and the people I've been riding with are very impressed with my progress and I'm ready to move on to a better bike than my first buy. Due to the fact I've a couple of months off before starting my new job, and live near to CYB etc I'm looking at getting a lot of time on the trails.
I've around £1000 to play with and I'm down to two choices.
First is a Merin Malt 4 with XT 2008 Groupset a fork upgrade and black rim and spokes for £940
or the
Focus Super Bud 2008 that been getting rave reviews in the MTB world.
Wondering what the more seasoned MTB thoughts are on going straight onto a FS bike.

ooh good one this, I would go for the Merlin as they are great bikes but also as a relative beginner I think you would be better with a quality hardtail which the Merlin is. see the thread I started in the General comments titled "Are beginners moving to full sus too soon" to see how contentious a subject this can be!!0

Superbud is still an unknown - the only rave reviews are from a handful who have bought them on here!0
