The transrockies 08 runs from 10-16 august. This race / challenge is for 300 teams of 2 over 7 days and is considered the toughest MB race in the world - check out their website for all the information. Unfortunately my partner has had to pull out and I am looking for a volunteer / victim (!) to join me.
I am 40, london based, quite fit but certainly no expert or superhuman. Think Crash ball centre good at pulling on the flat but slower uphill - and have entered to finish rather than win. Not hugely experienced, I did SDW last year - I will be training hard, combining a 25-35 mile round trip commute with w/e's in afan, 2or3 south downs, surrey hills etc to keep the variety.
If anyone is keen to give this epic race a go - there is still 6 months training (just). I dont mind male /female expert or improver. I would consider assisting with flight for someone who could help out either as a mechanic / instructor to help me through.
Thanks Alastair

  • I'm off work on those dates..
What exactly does this entail in terms of flights, accomodation etc?

Break down the costs for me if you would?
I am genuinely interested and will be Googling this tomorrow.

Dot 4 in the eye hurts. Trust me
  • www.transrockies.com - huge forum there, reports of previous six year races etc.
Cost Breakdown: I have entered a team in the "epic" category which is 1,950 Canadian dollars (approx £1,000). Includes tented accomodation every night, breakfast, evening meal, and feeding stations en route and post race dinner. Flight to calgary is £700 return - there might be cheaper options. Then there will be bike spares, incidentals etc. I will sort accom in calgary, panorama and transport to start and finish. Have a good look at the website - loads of info - and shout if you need specific info.
Travel ideally 6th or 7th aug. 1 night in calgary, travel to panorama following evening, 2 or 3 nights in Pan to acclimatise / prepare. race 7 days 10-16, could fly back 17th or stay in canada for relax after.
    Thanks Al

Alastair - have you considered the TransWales/TransScotland events as an indication of how tough the 'Rockies will be. Not so much flying to get there either.

(By the way, I'm noy sure what SDW is)
  • Sorry SDW - South downs Way.
Have looked at Transwales - but have heart set on this transrockies this year- the reports of those who have done it are pretty inspiring. Maybe transwales next year??
good opportunity to stock up on some kit at north american prices - and the canuck chicks are sweet! Also - added spice of grizzlie!!
