Hi,

On Saturday I was hit by a car. The accident was 100% the drivers fault. There were witnesses. The driver drove off but I have his number plate and have reported the incident to the police.

I want to make a claim against the driver. I've come across lots of 'no win no fee' comapnaies on the internet but am unsure who to use. One that seems good on first call is 'Cycle Claims'. Has anyone had any experience with them or can they suggest any other companies?

Thanks

Lee

I'm wary of 'no-win-no-fee' places. Mainly because I work in litigation defence and, by and large, they're all cvnts behind the scenes.

If it's as clear-cut as you say then my advice would be to either find a good local solicitor and book an initial appointment. Ask family/friends or the local CAB.

Or, if you have household/car insurance with legal protection (or a bank account/credit card) then you may be covered through them for legal expenses.

Maybe the case for generic companies who advertise on daytime TV - not necessarily so for cycling specific companies, of whom I'd recommend www.bikeline.co.uk - have used them successfully in the past to claim against a car driver. I'd recommend not using a generic local solicitor, as it seems there is specific case law relating to road accidents involving bicycles which they'd probably not know the ins and outs of (certainly from what I've heard of people using such solicitors, they don't generally have a clue about bicycles).
  • Thanks very much for the info.
