Hi

Need to buy a new chain for my bike, Trek 1000SL. It is running an 8 speed system at the back and triple at the front, but being the 1000SL it's pretty budget stuff fitted as standard.
Can anybody suggest a suitable replacement for the stock chain?

Thanks

Russ

    KMC X8 93 Chain Silver - Grey 8 Speed

That's what I use. Cheap at £8, and has the special link with it.

SRAM are pretty good in 8 speed too. Not overly dear although doubtful for 8 quid.

9spd will also work by the way.

    Check CRC for Sram deals

Just fitted a KMC Z82 today - think it was £3.99 on Parkers - comes with a pair of missing links - straightforward to fit - previously had a KMC Z51 on the bike - no problems with either.

Either a KMC or SRAM chain will be good. But if the current chain is very worn you will also need to change the cassette as the new chain will "jump" on the old cassette.

Use a chain wear tool first to check your old chain - if the wear is under 1.0 your cassette will probably still be OK
