Opinions on a couple of bikes please...

I got the go-ahead from work today to buy a bike on C2W, I can spend up to £1k.

I think I'll opt for spending more on the frame than groupset and upgrade bits gradually, but some general opinions on these options would be useful......

Orbea Onix Vuelta - Currently my top choice.

Pinarello FP1

Wilier Evasion

There's also the Trek 1.9 and Focus Cayo, but I'm not too keen they look a little dull, yes I know that's a terrible way to judge a bike. Is there anything else worth looking at? Would Planetx frame be better than Orbea?

I'd say the Onix frame is nicer (at least to look at) than the Planet X. The Planet X on the other hand is kitted up in Ultegra.

Not much use am I? :)

there's pro's and cons to all of them. The Orbea certainly provides the best frame to base future upgrades on.

you will find a differnence between the likes of tiagra and ultegra though... how likely are you to upgrade the components? If so.... i'd say the orbea and use the tiagra stuff for a winter bike.
  • That's exactly what I was thinking, I currently have an old Barracuda eBay special  with clapped out Sora parts (I can hardly call it a groupset). So i'll upgrade the new one and probably have most of the Tiagra on the old bike in time for next winter.

I'd have the Orbea out of that little lot.
