I'm thinking about getting some cycling suitable sunglasses before the summer. One reason being I'm doing the London - Paris and that'll be five or six hours out on the road each day and if it's sunny....

So far I've looked online at the Specialized Helix Adaptalite (£90) and the Adidas Gazelle Climacool Pro (£64.99), the latter not having "Light reactive" lenses but are supplied with interchangable tinted lenses. Inserts for each, to fit prescription lenses, are about a tenner.

Any comments/experience of either welcome. As are other suggestions.

I know they're not cheap but I swear by my Oakley M Frames with the Rx insert. the best prescription cycling eyewear I've ever had.

Massimo, is this just a matter of choosing your Oakley M frame and popping down to your optician and having your prescription lens fitted? Or is it a little more involved than that? Sorry to be a bit er, blonde lol.

I've got Oakley perscriptions...I went for half jackets. Worth every penny of the £300+ I spent on them...Yes, I know, a lot of money, but optically they are spot on, they don't allow extraneous light in from the sides, and the lenses I have are colour neutral, so I don't get any colour cast. Might not be everyones reason for buying them, but I'm a yachting photographer. I wear them almost every day I work on the water so for me they are worth it.

Unfortunately you can't just pop to your opticians and put standard lenses on Oakley frames because most Oakley lenses curve on both the horizontal and vertical axis...and if you look at most perscription lenses you'll see the majority are flat

Check out the Optilabs range. The prices are very reasonable and the quality is top notch. There have been several discussions of them recently on the ACF forum. Have a look there for some more opinions.

You could try the Rudy Project range. I have a pair of Ketyums. I don't have the optical inserts, but you can fit them. Try somewhere like www.sport-spex.co.uk

This is what I use. It is expensive, but not dissimilar to the total cost for Oakleys. Mine are varifocal and came to £160 inclusive. But worth it as you can still have the convenience of interchangeable lenses.

Another vote for OPTILABS. I initially bought a dark-lensed pair, then got a pair with lenses that adjust to the light. They are fantasic, as i can wear them night & day. I also have a fairly unusual prescription, and they are optically spot-on.

Same here +1 for Optilabs. Got a pair of reactive lenses and they are fantastic. Very quick to go from absolutly clear to dark and prescription is great. Pretty good price as I recall too ... about £120

My mate has a pair of the addidas ones with optical inserts, he was using when we went skiing last month. Pretty neat solution and pretty light even with the inserts in. A lot cheaper than oakleys!

I'm almost tempted as I sometimes wear daily disposable contact lense and sometimes wear glasses, so normally end up carrying normal glasses, prescription glasses and normal sunglasss around which is a bit of a fag.
