Have got permission from the wife to spend about £250 on a pair of wheels for my new racing bike. Not wanting to buy anything with obscure/hard to find spokes/hubs. Any good suggestions out there? Someone suggested Bontrager to me....?

have a search on the forum - there are plenty of threads on this.

the old factory vs handbuilt will come up every time. Make your own mind up but for me, at that price point, I'd go handbuilt every time.

source some decent reliable hubs (ultegra, DA, Hope etc.) maybe s/hand, and lace them to OP rims and DT spokes, prolock nipples. Make a lovely, tight wheelset. Use a good builder.

You say you don't want any "obscure/hard to find spokes/hubs". That effectively rules out factory built wheels.

If you contact a reputable wheel builder, like Paul Hewitt, and tell them what you want for how much, they probably give you the best advice about handbuilts.

If you wanted to go down the Factory route, I'd recommend something like the Campag Zondas for around £250.
