Reynolds Wheels

I've pretty much decided to buy a Planet X carbon bike, with the Ultegra SL groupset and Reynolds Solitude wheels, but it's the wheels that are causing me to have some doubt.

From the reviews I've read on the net, the spokes aren't the strongest - but according to the spec they're DT Revolution and Comp, so I should be able to get any repairs taken care of.

Does anyone have any experience of these wheels?

Other option is to go for the £999 Ultegra bike and upgrade the wheels myself (yes handbuilt - Open Pro on Hope Pro 3 would be my choice) but I do like the look of the SL group (and the carbon bars that come with it).

I have Reynolds wheels on my Planet-X TT bike and they've been fine. I believe that early versions of Reynolds wheels did have spoke problems but apparently Planet-X/Reynolds have sorted this out on the newer models.

If they are still the Reynolds Alta comp then they are passable wheels - light, a bit flexy but seem to be reliable.
The only things I didn't like about my PlanetX were the cables (seem to be stretching still after nearly a year!), brake blocks and saddle. I wasn't too thrilled with the wheels but planned to upgrade them anyway and keep the Alta's for winter use.

I got Reynlods Alta Races from PX last year. way too flxy and broke at least half a dozen spokes over the season. they'll do for the spares van...

I got some Reynolds Alta Races from PX and they were cr*p. ( for the same reason as aarw says) PX were however brilliant and refunded me with no quibbles.

i bought this bike which is great with sh#te wheels. the alta comp should be replaced. i hear from people who know these things that the solitude wheels are a major improvement though.
