I bought a GT avalanche 2.0 about 2 months ago. It has tektro hydraulic comp. brakes and after bedding in they were actually really good. However recently the pads seemed to have moved out and you really have to squeeze the lever before they make contact, even when they do they're not very strong. I'm looking into getting new brake pads.

Cheers
I wish I could afford the hope factory :(

I take it you've tried tightening the cables?

Thy are Hydro brakes - no cables involved. Have you tried bleeding them?

Your pistons may be sticking. Try removing the pads and pulling on the lever to see if the pistons move, be carefull not to move them out to far or your risk the whole piston coming out of the caliper. If you do get the pistons to move, push them back in fully and do the process again to try and loosen them up.

You could possibly have air in the system, how have you been storing the bike? have you noticed any fluid leak out? May well need to bleed the system.

Also sounds like you may have contaminated the pads with oil or something, even when squeezing really hard with a contaminated pad your struggle to get the brake to lock.

If you are trying to be funny, then give up. If you have advice to give then give it, if not, then just don't bother
