Why does every one hate TREK Madone

God help you if it's also got Shimano and you wear Rapha.........
I've not seen much 'Madone' basing on here to be honest, I quite like the look of them myself. At the end of the day as long as you're happy that's all that matters..
Welcome to the forum aswell....0 -

Fraid it is shimamno. No Rapha - even I can see that I'd look a bit of a plank.
First ride this w/e - expecting to note a bit of an improvement over my 2000 Peugeot Pulse ..."I thought of it while riding my bicycle."0 -

They are technically good frames, but unfortunately the branding isn't very stylish.
Cycling is all about style isn't it? That why the Italian stuff is always pretty popular.
When I set about choosing my new bike (I know very little about bikes) I had two key criteria
- Steel or Ti
- European
!
Very little time to buy and also wanted to buy very locally. First bike I saw that I really liked.
Anyway -off to the Rapha website .."I thought of it while riding my bicycle."0 -
Beautiful bike the Madone.
Enjoy yourself on the Rapha website0 -
Through history, warfare has been the way to take over the world ..... until now, there is now another way, The American Way.
Instead of armies they have huge immensly powerful corporations, instead of weapons they have cleaver marketing. (and just for good measure, when all else fails they have armies and weapons too)
Trek is part of this, Armstrong was their cruise missile. :evil:0 -

I guess I should have looked for a bike with a Fairtrade logo on it ..."I thought of it while riding my bicycle."0 -
Alot of things from the USA come in for alot of stick these days. A testement to the excellent work done by Bush and his cohorts.0

I know. Hate the US as represented by Bush and the corporations. But having ruined their economy, everything is now so cheap ... :?0 -

So he worked on the new Madone?"I thought of it while riding my bicycle."0 -
Didn't like the look of the old one but the 2008 models do look good.
Intend on looking at/trying the 5.2 Performance model.
Will it disuade me from buying a Wilier Izoard or Orbea Orca? I suspect not.0 -
I'm not saying its right or wrong. Its just a bike at the end of the day and it'll serve you as well/better than many others. It doesn't represent anything as such but some people will think that it does.0

Lovely looking bike. Ist choice - Pinarello Prince, but a madone would be on my shopping list. I own a 5500 and it's a superb bike for the price it was and what I've had from it.M.Rushton0

I tried one and it is on my very short list to buy this year. I care not a jot for any stick.0
-
Snobbery mate, that's all. I ride a Madone 5.9 SL and usually hammer other style concious riders on hill climbs, so there's probably an element of bitterness too0
-
Madone's made in the USA????????
Bet there are a handfull of eastern factories churning these out for all sorts of manufacturer's. I have an S works, a Roubaix Exp and Trek Madone circa 2005 just had to remove the Made in T?@Wa£ stickers off the specialised's and under no illlusion that the Trek was made in any USA factory. All good bikes. Not a fan of the new Madones with a seatpost that is limiting size wise when re sale comes around for differing sized buyers. Still a cracking bike though.0 -
Hate is a bit strong
I think it's perceived as a kind of lacking imagination purchase - walk into shop with fat wad and buy the best bike from the most famous brand. There is also the suspicion of the buyer haven fallen for dubious marketing along the lines of 'as ridden by Lance'.
Personally, I wouldn't worry about it unless I was hopelessly slow in which case I would worry about looking like all gear and no idea.0 -

Good points. Not quite hopelessly slow (40 miles a week on my Brompton helps here).
Lance who :?:"I thought of it while riding my bicycle."0 -
Lance who used to be in Neighbours.0

Oh was it? I thought Lance was Billys mate in Neighbours circa 1998?!0
-
Lance and Martin, circa 1988. Lance was the thick one. Was never much of a neighbours fan, so maybe there was another one. Sure they both rode Treks though0
-
Hahaha....damn my memory and the depth of rubbish on the internet. I was able to find this...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lance_Wilkinson
Cakewalk...the reason people hate Trek Madones is because Lance WIlkinson rode one in Neighbours.

Just to throw a littel devil's advocate in here...
Isn't your latest bike more or less brandless, thus being afflicted by not having a "stylish" name attached to it?
Not that I can talk. I ride a Condor Leggero that is made from Dedacciai tubing. But if I ever get into Rapha I imagine I'd have the perfect bike for it.
As for style, I agree. This is why I bought the silver shoes and have bright red bar tape. I try to avoid the monochrome black look whenever I can.0 -
from the Andrew Bibby page...."After leaving Neighbours rumours circulated that Andrew Bibby tragically died in a pole-vaulting accident. This prompted hundreds of calls and emails by upset fans to the show's producers in Melbourne, Australia. However, this rumour was soon found not to be true when after several years absence Andrew made a brief return to Neighbours."

Does Cipo's bike have a stylish big brand name attached to his bike (apart from his own)?
It's a Dedacciai frame, so it's Italian (although probably made in Taiwan) - I just need to get some decals.0 -

I remember his girlfriend, Amy, being well fit! :P0 -

Good point!
I was eyeing it up when I was shopping for a carbon frame. Sadly, Condor moved to the Ribelle frame for their Baracchi this year, which I think is a step down aesthetically compared to the Nero Corsa that they used last year.0
