silly question probably but how do you fit mudguards to modern allen fitting brake mounts, are the holes in the mounting brakets bigger to take the head which is recessed?into the frame fork.

Put the guard mount between the brake and the frame.

I asked the same question and found these nuts were a great answer. harriscyclery.net/itemdetails.cfm?catalogId=39&id=2467 With them, you can mount the front mudguard behind the fork and get lower coverage. Also, they allow you to take the fenders off without touching the brakes as the mudguard bolt is separate from the recessed brake bolt. This site has a better picture www.rivbike.com/products/list/fenders_a ... uct=27-008
The problem is availability because, as far as I know, they're just available in US.

Hi Steve, I found a similar product to Canamdad at my Local LBS, they go into the fork to hold the brake, but have a hex with a threaded section sticking out. The LBS in question is Wheelcraft In Clachan of Campsie, North of Glasgow, call Alistair Gow on 01360 312709, I'm sure he would be willing to post.

I bet they are available at other "old school" LBS as well.

    Cheers, Streak

PS they are quite long to suit carbon forks and may need shortening for normal forks.
I'm not so twp as to not know I'm twp.

just put the mount at the front of thr fork instead of the rear!! Between thr fork and caliper
  • cheers chaps, I like the sound of those Streak, I will phone them tomorrow.
putting the bracket behind the brake at the front of the fork isn't an option really as I am using NOS Bluemells from the 70's and mounting them that way (I tried it) just doesn't look right somehow.
