Damn i am looking at 3 different bikes.

My current hybrid has 38c Tyres and weighs almost 18 kg fully loaded

Ideally i want to get a bike that weighs approx. 10 kg and has 25c tyres

My contenders are

Condor Bivio Flat Bar http://www.condorcycles.com/biviofb.htm

Specialized Sirrus Comp http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=33091

Focus Corrente http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?Cat=cycle&ProdID=5360032384&N=Focus%20Corrente%202008

I am going to go to both Evans and Condor on Saturday to look at 2 of these more closely.

Does anyone here have any experience of any of these bikes??

Scott, Marin and Ridgeback all do equivalent bikes which you might want to have a look at.

If you can, I'd advise spending a bit more. The £500 price point is a tough one to hit without making some compromises, which often add weight. At £600+ you can spec something that is pretty decent in most areas. This applies to factory bikes and custom builds. I've built up a few bikes for mates and I usually find that 600 is the minimum I can do it and retain a decent spec, even with ebay bargains and a few s/hand parts.

well the price does start at £500 and goes up to £900 for the condor.

I o like the look of the Rideback Flight T3 for £600.

I'll give that one a look over as well tomorrow

    Thanks

Not ridden any of them, but one of the CTC chaps has recently got a Sirrus. It looks very good and seems nicely finished - and he is very pleased with it. I did rather fancy one just for the style!

I have the Sirrus Comp (2007 version) & it's a great bike - relatively light, comfortable over long distances (my longest non-stop ride is 50km in 2hrs over very rolling terrain in the South of France), although I've since changed the pedals to PD-M520 spd's & the wheels to Mavic Aksiums.

Well i managed to track down a Ridgeback Flight T3, had to go to Evans in Clapham North. I must admit it is a very light bike. I also had a look at the Sirrus Comp and again is a very nice bike.

I am inclined to go with the Flight T3 as it has in addition to a carbon fork a carbon seat post and handlebar.

Well I will be getting the Ridgeback Flight T3. As it is light and has good specifications out if the box.

Of course i can update features wheels etc. over time.

Just got to get the sizing sorted out and of course which damn tyres to get.

My current fav's are schwalbe marathon plus.

I know these give best p****** protection but am also looking at Armadillo's and some Conti's

Try some Vredestein Fortezza TriComps. Good grip, roll well and good value. You will not regret it. I bought them after recieving some good advice on the forum.
