Has anyone carried a large bike box with them on french trains before, what problems if any did you encounter.

i am specifcally thinking of getting a train from bordeaux to pau for the etape and the bike box i have my eye on is the following dimensions: 1310 x 900 x 340 mm.

I've done it with my partner. We had two large bike bags but were told that it would be fine to take them on the train. The only real problem was that there was very little room on the train so we blocked off the corridor of the carriage with them. The French passengers took it well, although we did feel a bit awkward and it showed off our lack of French language skills as we couldn't talk to anyone very well.

What was worse though was when the French police did a "raid" on the train running down it as fast as they could. Not a clue what that was all about but our bags sort of hindered them a bit. They were very big, very scary and didn't look very happy with us...
