Hi everyone i presently have a Fox Float RL rear shock on my bike.It is 4 years old and due a service which would cost £150.For £300 i could get the new 2008 RP23 shock customed tuned for me and my bike in with that price.Could anyone tell me iff theyv rode with the RP23 and if i would notice a greater difference in performance ?I notice it has the 3 pro pedal settings and have heard it reduces bob to virtualy zero, which.is a bit of a problem on my present shock at times. Thanks for any replys on this matter.

I just changed my fox float to an rp23.

Its like having a new bike, because you can use the propedal for going up, you can set it up as bouncy as you like for going down...

    so cool :)
  • Thanks shore this is helping me make my mind up now  .I just wanted some views on here of people that had used it.Having just upgraded to full xtr last year and other bling im more than happy with my frame (scott strike pro) and can still get a new swing arm if needed fora few years to come.I personally prefere the single pivot suspension.Shore i would be interested to here in which Propedal setting you ride, and iff you find you have to vary it much.Much appreciated shifter58.PS it sounds like the RP23 will give my rear end a new lease of life.
  • Cheers bluefoam,think im being sold now :D .

BTW, I have it on 3 for the road, and 1 or 2 for going up offroad, depending on how rough it is...

3 feels almost like a hardtail to me...
  • Hi

I have this shock on my new pitch pro, Have not had much time with it yet .., I thought it only had two setting open or closed , closed being pro ped which will kick in when you hit medium to hard stuff..

The other settings are the rebound which is the speed in which the shock returns, It is recommended for a medium/slow set up on this , the other setting is the compression and this is set by a high presh pump this needs to be set for rider weight (sag) the sag should be around 30% of the shock travel..

Only had a few rides on this at the mo and I found it is a really nice bit of kit, I would recommend one..

According to the Fox information for the RP23, the dial with the 3 settings all apply for the lever in the ProPedal position, with 1=All Mountain efficiency, 2= XC trail-All day and 3= Race Day setting. If you have the lever in the open position then the shock is going to be super plush ready for a bit of DH action. Still getting used to the best set up myself but im already very impressed with this bit of kit.. great investment. :D

The OEM shocks you get with bikes often have different features than the retail units.
  • Thanks for the info bluefoam,i was wondering what settings you used like i said,il try them when i purchase the rp23.On my present shock you can only change the rebound from fast to slow.I have a lockout on my handlebar but rarely use it,so i wont be sad to see that go.I think the 3 seting for the road seems good,as in winter if the trails are too mashed il do a little road training on my bike. Thanks for your input aevan,it does state in the rp23 info that it has 3 pro pedal settings, which my bikeshop confirmed, but,it does look a trifle confusing to my present shock. Please let me know how you both get on with it on futre rides and any tips for settings ect.

aevans692: You have an RP2 which just has Propedal on or off, the RP23 means on and off but with "on" having 3 settings to choose from.
  • Thanks for the info mozzle, every bit counts :D .From what ive heard so far not one bad review, and everyone happy. So going off the response so far it is definatly worth investing in,which i will do.By the way it will be teamed up with my TALAS RLC Forks upfront which ive been more than pleased with.As i stated earlier my present shock tends to bob sometimes, have you people using the RP23 noticed a virtually bob free ride like fox claim?Replys really appreciated by the way.
  • Thank for clearing that up zero

    Just buy one !!

Just taken my Orange 5 AM out today and the rp 23 on the back
and boy is it good in flat mud i rode the shock on setting 1 and
when going up hill i put it in mode 3 and yes hardly any movment.
And going down flick it open

If it costs the same as to refurb the old one throw it over your
shoulder and make way for progress

    Get on and smile
  • I will buy one grantway,it will leave me a little skint but hey !! lifes for living yea ? :D .Anyway, last year i had some wheels built chris king hubs, mavic 819 rims,i thought i was mad spending so much but looking back now ,well worth the investment :D .Going off what you good people have said about the RP23,itwill definatly be worth investing in,and,i suspect will be a lot smoother and better performing than my present shock.

How easy do you boys find it to change between the 3 settings? Can you manage to change it while going along or like me do you have to stop to adjust? Switching between open and ProPedal is easy to do while going along.

Can be hard when its mounted upsidedown on my prophet but I love the rp23. Changed my radium towards a rp23 this year . Love the whole range of options ad its great on or offroad
  • Mozzle i ride mainly xc,trail so would you say ProPedal 2 setting would be fine for me mainly ? and do you find that setting fine for riding onroad ?.What setting do you ride onroad Prowlus, and do you find you swap and change the ProPedal settings a lot when out riding?

According to Fox's info, ProPedal 2 should be fine for the type of riding your doing shifter58, personally Im mainly using setting 3 at the minute as i like the set up a little firmer. Flicking through all the settings though to try and dial in the ride perfectly. My shock is upside down and find it near impossible to change while riding.

I can flick easily while cycling, but you should take pressure off the shock when turning propedal on.

    What bike you have Mozzle??

I have the Orange 5 AM and just look down and all
in front of you IE 1-2-3

    As simple as A B C

I use setting 1 when on the flats and setting 3 when going up hill
and fully open when going down

But i dont get off the bike to adjust settings, have not heard
    that before

Changing between 1 - 2 - 3 settings can't really be done while riding and in fact shouldn't be done while weighting the shock according to the manual, so don't change while there's sag.

Flicking propedal on or off is easy if mounted ok like my Orange 5 and is perfectly ok to do...

I leave mine on 3 all the time, the shock is genius - it climbs almost like a hardtail (I say almost, because it will still give under rocks and routes making it climb better in my eyes) - I've done some pretty big stuff too and forgot I hadn't flicked it off and yes it didn't give as much as expected and I was rattled more, but I reckon I was faster as I started thinking about cleaner lines rather than slowing down and opening the shock up.

Grantway, ive got a Tomac Snyper. The shock is mounted upside down and like you say switching the ProPedal on and off is simple as...... well, simple as riding a bike  Turning the dial between the 3 further settings is a different matter all together.

I see Mozzle no with the Orange its the right way up
so all the markings is in front of you.

Nice bike by the way Mozzle

Zero303 mate done the same thing blasting down a very rough section
    like sitting on an hardtail.

Zero303 so when im on the bike i cant flick from pro-pedal to fully open?

    Also when riding i cant change between pro-pedal 1 2 3 etc?

    Please let me know

You can flick between pro-pedal on and off, you cannot change between 1 - 2 - 3 while riding.
