Have just bought some Magura Marta SLs (Red - Natch) for my Marin. Will be here tomorrow! 8)

Did a fair bit of research on them so didn't rush into it and weight was an issue.

Does anyone have any *real* experience of running them

  • yo cheesey..

ive got them on my stumpjumper pro..and all i'll say is, awsome brake..i went to afan a couple of weeks ago and they were bloody brilliant...no probs what so ever.

    look cracking too :P
  • Sounds good man,

They seem to get good reviews - in most mags but the price always go against them.

I originally was going to go for Juicy Ultimates but the looks and weight of the Martas changed my mind - plus I fancied a change tbh!

funny, i was gunna buy them in gold last night off crc, but after adding them both front and rear to my basket, changed my mind; the price nearly made my eyes bounce off the screen!! so bought some hope minis instead. with braided hoses and blue floating rotors. needless to say it was 100 quid cheaper!
I said hit the brakes not the tree!!

  • Yes - they are expensive but I did in all fairness sell my juicy carbons t ease the pain a little.

They are sodding expensive and there's nothing to 'em.

It's the final push to get the Indian Fire Trail to top-level race spec.

Waiting on a Thomson Masterpiece post and she's done.

Shall put some piccies up when all the new kit is on.

Just out of curiosity what do you consider full race spec?

Top-end drive train (2007 XTR = Shifters, front and rear mech, cranks, chain, cassette, hubs)

    Fox F100 RLC forks

    lightweight brakes - Marta SLs

light, stiff wheelset - DT Swiss 4.2s and XTR M975 hubs

    Thomson masterpiece seatpost

USE Race Stem and Atom Carbon Flattie bars

    Pedros prayer stix grips

Continental Race King UCI World Cup tyres and lightweight tubes

I'd say that was race spec...

anything to keep weight as low as possible - but unfortunately that comes at a cost.
  • Actually I don't race for the record - I just love having a lightweight XC machine as most of the time I ride solo and like getting up to decent speed ......

My other bikes are for different purposes, this gets used on the road a lot too

I know what I'm on about anyway

so whats the all up weight of that build then?
incidentally, my minis turned up today. about 5 minutes befroe i went to work; beautiful timing. they look so nice with the blue rotors. will have to wait to fit em though; the forks need to be returned from merlin and they were only sent off today and am also waiting on my rear shock. then it'll be ready.

Comes in just under 21lb - can't go any lighter and not much point tbh

Sent the masterpiece back as it was a 350mm and I need a 400mm so Ibought a USE SUMO carbon instead (was cheaper too)
