TFL Route Planner - Liverpool St to Victoria?

Hello,
Just tried to grab a route from Liverpool St Station to Victoria station and the TFL planner suggests going south of the river, across past Waterloo then up past Parliament Square and so on.
Seems a fairly silly route. I would have thought towards Holborn, then the Strand, then Trafalgar Square, the Mall to Buckingham Palace then across from there?
Anyone think I'm missing a better route than this?
Thanks
Adam

I reckon that is the quickest way, however counter-intuitive it seems. The roads are quieter, and you won't get caught up in the gridlock at Holborn, Strand and T-Square.
That's the way I go if when I occassionally ride from Victoria to that side of the City.0 -
The City is in desperate need of a east-west cycle route, so the route proposed is not as silly as it may first appear.0

I think I would go via some variant of this route:

On the other hand, looking at that, south of the river seems like a very good alternative.0 -
Doesn't seem a silly route, just that I get lost south of the river.
Personally I'd go more or less as you suggest since it seems more like home turf and is quite nice as well.0 -
Thanks Guys,
Bent Mikey, what's the embankment like for cycling on. always thought it might be too busy / nervous, especially as I am on a folder and therefore don't have the domineering road presence I have on a big boy bike?

I don't ride embankment that often, but it seems fine to me. Sometimes a little fast and aggressive, but plenty enjoyable!
Mind you, I was having a good time on the Ewell bypass yesterday, 40mph dual carriageway in rush hour.0 -
Defo take the Embankment, I used to commute it everyday in rush hour at my old job and it's fab, good surface, wide and fast. I miss it!
