coming from this topic: http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopi ... 1#14732191
I'm using:
Giant Acid Frame
SRAM Cassette (8spd)
Shimano Chain
Shimano ST Shifter
Previously using Shimano Acera Derallieur however would like to buy better after i snapped a jockey wheel in half
Looking between:
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=24088
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=20700
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=15112
and difference between long and short cage (other than length between jockey wheels, what does the difference actually do)
thanks

personally i would have the XT shadow, nice mech and will take the sting out of going 9 speed if you ever want to upgrade.
The longer the cage the more slack the mech can take up in the chain. The amount of slack you need to deal with is roughly determoned by the number of chainrings you have.
As a general rule:
1 chainring = short cage
2 chainrings = medium cage
3 chainrings = long cageGiant TCR advanced 2 (Summer/race)
Merlin single malt fixie (Commuter/winter/training)
Trek superfly 7 (Summer XC)
Giant Yukon singlespeed conversion (winter MTB/Ice/snow)

O right, well I'm only single chainringed so I guess I'll go short cage
thanks buddy (i was thinking the same favouring to the shadow anyway )0 -
I would agree with Dav1 j@mi3,very dependable and hardwaring.Ihave used xtr rear mech for the last 4 years, but, previous to that xt and definatly no complaints.0
