Creaking Shimano pedals

Another creaking question.

I just started using Shimano 520 SPDs - my first use of Shimano pedals and the blasted things creak when I putting down the pressure. I tried smothering the shoe plate and pedal clips in vaseline but that didn't work. My cycling buddy tells me this sometimes happens with Shimano cleats.

Any ideas? Or is this a 'feature' of Shimano?

Ive never had it in the cleats (not a euphemism). The bearings sometimes go. If you wiggle them with your hands and theres a bit of movements then that will be it. If they have a grease port, use it and take it to your lbs to have the bearings replaced/cones adjusted. If its a sealed unit that might be more difficult (or easier if you just get a new pair).

    Could also be the bb.

I had this on one of my 520s after 1000 miles use, fitted a new pair and all quiet again.
Of course it could be your shoes / cleats that creak, could you try a different pair of pedals or shoes to eliminate one or the other ?
