Hi all, a noob here on Bikeradar, hoping some of you can help me out. I've read through a good few of the posts and really only found a couple of old bits and bobs to answer my query.
I'm just about to replace at 10-year-old bike, which was a cheap Emmelle but has been a great servant.
Of course MTBs have moved on and I have been doing a bit of research before I spend my £400, and I like the look of the GT Avalanche series.
Now, as you can see in the title of my post, I'm unsure whether to go for the 2008 2.0 or the 2007 1.0. I have found the latter for £430 while the 2.0 is £399 (top end of my budget really). So I'm wondering whether it really is worth the extra £30 for the 1.0 model.
What do you guys think? Advice greatly appreciated!
Andy

I can't really see much of a difference between the two tbh..

The '07 gets Deore shifters over Alivio,WTB rims over no name,32mm stanchions over 30mm,oh and the '07 is 9 speed instead of 8 speed.
I'd go for the '07 model personally, but others may disagree..
Test first if at all possible as some SR forks work well and others, not so well..=========================================
Dot 4 in the eye hurts. Trust me0 -
Lol @ the name - great stuff!
Thanks for the reply, so you reckon the 1.0 shades it and is worth the extra few quid, then. I think even the things you mentioned there justify that extra spend... now I have to justify it to the wife!
Cheers again!

'07 model looks worth the extra to me.0

go for the 07.
I've got an 04 v-brake and it still gets used regularly

Having had a 2006 Avalanche 1.0, I'd say either model is great for a starter in this world, the great thing about these models are that the frame will last you years, so upgrading to better componanats as they wear out will gradually give you a great bike.
I think the 2007 model is a better spec though, and LX on ther rear will make a real difference.0 -
Thanks for all your advice, everyone. I decidd to go for it and placed an order, but they are out of stock!
To be fair, though, the shop (Sunset MTB) have offered me the 2008 1.0 model for £20 extra so I think that's a fair deal!
Looking forward to getting my new bike soon!
Cheers

My friend has just bought a Avalanche 2.0 and it is really good and I really like the frame. It does however have the 160 rotors and they look a little undersized. The gears are great but there are little hints that its not as good as it could be. Like the wheels having areas for v-brake use and the chain set. It is a really good bike actually and is gorgeous to ride. He got his from sunsetmtb but I have subsequently found it cheaper when I hunted around. The forks are really good and the lockout is a really useful feature. Great bike but the Genesis core 10 is similarly price on http://www.ukbikesdepot.com/products.php?plid=m1b7s2p530&rs=gb Looks to be really good as well. Hope this helps.
I wish I could afford the hope factory0
