  • A lad i go riding with has the old LT. Had a quick spin on it. It looks nice but was over bounced for me. Felt like i was sat really deep in the suspension but remote from the trail. But i think some people like that.

It climbed really well though which was a surprise.

    140mm travel I think.
I hate it when people say David Beckham's stupid...its not like anyone ever says: 'Stephen Hawking - he's s**t at football.' Paul Calf
  • i have an orange five with bigger forks its an amazing big and i have done some pretty silly things on it, BUT i have an attack trail in the shop that i work at and WOW it is the muts, i am very tempted rides amazingly well, very light when climbing but solid on the decents but im torn betwwen the five and the marin, and then trek show me stuff about the new remedy sub 29lbs bike that will take a pounding and xc possible, plus it save you 500bucks

im confused myself!! but i really am in love with the five and its possible to get it sub 29lbs to and still take the abuse
  • hi,

mate, your lookin for a stumpjumper pro..very light 26.4 pounds..go's like sh!t off a shovel
i fly up the hill quicker than mates on hardtails..maybe cos im fitter, not sure..feels so responsive too..
  • personally if i were spending £3000 or towards that i'd want something a bit more personal and not a generic specialized. they might be alright bikes but i don't feel they have any soul. personal opinion
and especially when the 5 and the attack trail are hanging around in the wings heh.

I agree, £3k is a lotta cash and you want something special... Little things like Orange and SC doing custom paint is a nice touch at the price...

I got my Five in Fools Gold and people always screw their faces up and ask why... until they see it in the flesh! I can't actually go out riding now without being stopped and quizzed and complemented on my bike - sounds lame but whenever you feel guilty or a little over indulgant over your purchase (it was a LOT of money to me and a pitch, or prophet would have done the job, although not as well in my eyes) things like that make you feel oh so much better again!

Are there any demo days happening near you? Sure the shops will give you a test ride with that wad to spend but you may find a couple more left field choices if you can get along to a demo day
Current steed is a '07 Carrera Banshee X

Mines the Orange 5 AM in Disco Black

I agree with Zerro303 the Orange bikes have soul they have been created by
hand and cut / pressed and welded together

Not hydroformed or clam shell then glazed over by quality components

Just like a suit or a handmade piece of furniture these items are special
and known by others and will always be wanted.

All manufacturing is now made mostly out of the country and what you
have left is high quality crafstmanship and thats what put my Orange 5AM
    together

Go over the Orange and check the welding and look at the manufactured
made in Tiawain and you see the value of the Orange bike
  • Many thanks for all the replies and recommendations so far, muchly appreciated 8)

Dunno what I'd buy for £3k to be quite honest, but I know I'd get right size.

Hope you like the new bike, I'm sure you'll be able to put it to good use living in that part of the world!
