I've heard some cassettes eat up hope pro II hubs?
I've currently got a PG950 cassette would i be correct in thinking i'd need a PG980 or PG990 if i want to go with SRAM?

PG980 cassette + PC971 chain for £33 on merlins seems quite attractive.

thanks

cassette with an alloy carrier. XT and above and the top level sram one.

  • Yes, as nick says but also the PG980 (penultimate in range - I have one and it's very good)

    Black carrier instead of red.
  • so i can still get the pg980 saving myself a good few quid along the way? the red looks delicious but i need money to save for my next bike!
    thanks fella's
Body: Steel with Black Anodised Aluminium Spider
alu's the important bit i presume
  • PG980 is only a few grammes less than the PG990.... exactly the same carrier just black - 990 not worth the extra imo
  • and yes - its the spider/carrier that's important. A steel one would eat into the freehub over time

My LBS told me that this isn't as big an issue as the internet is making out - in the few instances they have had issues it's always been fixed under warranty.

I'm currently running a pg950 that came with the bike so I'll let you know how it goes when it comes to removing it
  • too late, already splashed the cash  the deal with the chain was pretty good so i don't mind too much. thanks anyway zero

I've had a couple of Pro 2 hubs, and only used top end cassettes, and they still eat into the body. Trouble is its made of cheese.
