Newbie Question - about gear adjusters

I have two adjusters on my downtube for 105 front and rear deraileur. I know i might need to use them one day but how, why and which way???
Dry and warm days - FCN - 2

Dark wet cold - FCN - 7

    Just gives a bit more scope for making slight adjustments, rather than undoing the cable and tightening it. Wont do any harm and are very useful. Especially if you're on sti shifters that dont have barrel adjusters.

    As the cables stretch the gears go out of adjustment. By screwing the adjusters in an anti-clockwise direction the cable is tensioned. Again when setting up triples, especially road triple chain-sets, the adjuster is needed to get the fine adjustment required to avoid the rubbing of the chain on the front cage.
