I’m looking for a new bike that I can use for a short commute and occasional rough trails, so an MTB is what I need. I don’t want anything expensive as there is too much risk of it getting nicked!

I’ve been recommended the Revolution Cuillin Sport Disc for £279

Which is a very nice bike for the money… but I’m sorely tempted by this one on sale at Tesco Direct:

http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.200-6881.aspx

Which seems a snip at £175 for a bike with disc brakes. Was £350.

There is some more info on the spec here:

I know Lamborghini are better known for making cars. What can anyone tell me about this bike? Will I be getting a bargain or will it be a case of ‘buy cheap buy twice’?

I know the advice is to avoid cable disc brakes if you can't get hydraulic... but I think they are better than rim brakes.

Or re you simply disgusted at the low level of bike I am aiming for here?!

wouldn't touch a bike from tescos with a shitty stick...and i very much doubt they have anything to do with the car makers

nount wrong with cable discs, just need a bit of fettling every so often

look at the mongoose tyax range thats kinda in your price range.
  • I suppose I should stick to just buying groceries from Tesco, but it looks a good deal and it looks cool as well!

I got my Giant Yukon, with cable disc brakes for £270 (RRP is £300), not a bad entry level bike.

also the revolution cuillen is a decent bike for what you need it for.....

it doesn't sound like you are gonna be going crazy, mostly dotting around town with a view to riding trails maybe.

like ps said, the mongoose bikes are well received at this price point...personally i'd go with the cuillen

    don't do the tesco thing.
Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.

  • I'd decided not to do the Tesco thing, but then the price went down another £35 or so and the spectre of temptation loomed again.

But it seems nobody says that buying the Lamborghini bike from Tesco is a good idea!
  • please please please don't get the tesco bike. please. no matter what price.
revolution is a good bike for sure though.
  • The Revolution is a good bike and ideal for whatyou say you are going to use it for.
Please, please don`t buy the Tesco offering. You will thank us for it,later!!

What size do you need? That Revolution only seems to be available in 20" frame which is pretty large.

Have you considered buying second hand?

Giant Yukon and Mongoose Tyax much better value for money.
  • this looks like a reasonable deal http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/produ ... _Bike_2007
