Process Engineer, keeps me fulfilled, I like sticking labels on boxes and lining the nuts and bolts up. The others at work say I have a real talent for it, usually as they are backing away nervously

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result

Yeah Graz, probably for a year or so to train then I'm back over here. As far as I'm aware there's actually LOADS of work available. The company I'm working for is a consultancy and having to turn down work at the moment because they don't have enough staff.

  • I'm a traditional boatbuilder / shipwright / wood butcher

At the moment I'm self employed which means I spend far too much time having to do management crap - paperwork, quotes, accounts etc. - during which I spend far too much time on these forums!

Bad bits are working outside in crappy weather, trying to chase bills that haven't been paid, and that nasty feeling I get when I have had no new customers for a while, and I'm down to a week and a halfs work, then nothing.

Good bits are I've no boss getting it wrong, and I'm free to work to the quality and standards that I want, instead of pressured to finish too quickly. Working outside in the summer is great, and with a bit of planning I spend hot summer afternoons, sitting on a yacht in a pair of shorts, dangling my feet over the edge of the deck, and doing a bit of varnishing! - Which is nice! :D

It's also allowed me to fulfil the only absolute goal in my life of using my skills and contacts to find a wooden yacht that I could buy for less than the price of a secondhand fiesta and run the maintenance myself. I'm 29, and own a 30ft classic yacht and a couple of dinghies - that makes my job pretty perfect for me!

Incidentally, blowing stuff up and buzzing around on quad bikes sounds good too! :D

your job sounds amazing BSJ, i had to choose when i joined the engineers what trade to do and i chose to be a plant fitter then got to do my class one qual as a machinist. (all sappers do a class 2 and class 1 artisan trade plus combat engineering classes 3,2 and 1)

i often wish i had chosen to be a carpenter instead. your job sounds like a nice way to spend your day.

that said, today has been the best day i have ever had, i might try and buy a quad!!
