Band/Braze On Front Mech
I currently have a band-on front mech, but managed to twist the mech itself today.
If the band is fine, in the correct position etc, do I just need to buy a braze-on mech?
Put another way, Is the band simply a way to convert to attach the braze-on, or is there more to it?
thanks

Band-on front mechs clamp around the seat tube, braze-on front mechs are the same in action but different in the way they attach to the frame. As the name suggests they bolt to a braze-on on the side of the seat tube. With the recent rise in popularity of aluminium frames, some of these are now needing an adapter for the braze-on mech to attach. In some ways these are better as you have more scope for adjustment over the traditional steel braze-on.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

No, you need a new band-on mech, as the mech itself doesn't detach from the band (unless you have a braze-on with an adapter).
Surely your point, redvee is that people are using braze-on mechs with adapters, when they could just use a band-on mech. Of course that is what people in this country seem to end up with for Campag mechs, since it's easier for suppliers to stock braze-ons and adapters. (Not so long ago this was something you needed to do if you had an oversized seattube - hence our Cannondale tandem has a DA triple braze-on mech on an adapter since they didn't make that size of band-on - but now oversize is standard).0
