Free maintenance and a free lunch in Brixton every Sunday

Yes, there is such a thing as a free lunch. With free bike maintenance to follow! It's in the middle of Brixton in the square in front of the Ritzy cinema every Sunday from 2 pm. I've just had some jolly tasty home made leek and potato soup there.

It's organised by the 'Reclaim Your Food' collective. It's not a charity, just a bunch of cheerful volunteers who rescue surplus food which is about to be binned by market traders or restaurants, take it home, cook it and give it away to anyone who wants it. The collective is part of the 'Food Not Bombs' movement. http://www.foodnotbombs.net/

The maintenance side of things is organised by a bloke called Seb who looks after London Paramedics' bicycles. So he's a bit of an expert at rebuilding wheels which have suffered severe overleading.

All welcome. If lots of bikes turn up maybe Seb's team will need some help, so if you're handy with a spanner why not pitch in?

Last week the collective got some hassle from the Police who muttered about Obstruction and Health and Safety. Names were taken. ASBOs were mooted. Full story here: http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/ ... 91653.html It all seems like a misallocation of Police resources to me: the people giving the food away were vastly outnumbered by the people offering skunk outside the KFC across the road.

This week all the Police did was observe, albeit with their shoulder numbers hidden. So with luck the Collective might be left alone to get on with their largesse for a while.

But one day you can be sure that the public hunger for free meals and chain tightening will spawn such a big gathering as to threaten national security. So you might be advised to come along asap while it's still friendly-ish.

Any solicitors who've read this far are especially welcome to advise the Collective on how to give away free food without being arrested.

Careful how you get there, hypodermic needles can give you really bad slow pucntures :lol::lol::lol: and if you get caught by a stray bullet it'll be a new tube needed for sure!

So why not rent a hall and charge people a quid or 2 for the maintenance to cover your costs for the hall. Then you have a regular venue where people can come and attendance wont be hindered by the weather. Just an idea
Why use brakes? Falling off is a much quicker way to stop
