Just bought a 305 and loaded up a course.
However when I got to the start at the end of my road (had been using the garmin inside and so had not expected a signal) switched on and no sat reception. Continuous locating screen
I have tried a reset and leaving it in the garden for 20minutes all to no avail.

Any suggestions..gratefully received.

Mine has done that once, I just turned the unit off then back on again and it located satellites quickly.

    Hi

Sorry to hear of your problem.

Obviously you have tried it on open ground, away from trees and high buildings etc.

I sometimes get a long drawn out "Locating Satellite" screen when starting it up away from home. Eventually a message appears asking something like "Are you hundreds of miles from your usual location?" (can't remember the exact phrase!). I respond "Yes" and it usually sorts it out. Just a thought, did you buy it from abroad?

A couple of times I have been frustrated by the delay and simply pressed the Mode button to bring up the usual display. It has then worked as it should.

Suggest you put it on the bike, switch it on, and go for a ride. If it can't find a signal during the ride it may be a faulty unit.

    Hope this helps.

    Rgds

  • i'm not familiar with that model, -battery wise.
my vista c gps did that not too long ago after i left it without batteries.i was out in the middle of nowhere without my glasses so couldn't read the screen.
when i got home i found that one of the options was asking me if the date was correct, when i found it wasn't and chose that option ,it reset and worked ok.
  • I think the satellite location on first power up takes a lot long than subsequently, as the unit remembers their location.

It means that it takes a bit longer if you travel some distance before your ride as well.
  • I had that problem with a new Edge 305 - I was out for a three hour ride and it never once picked up the satellites.

I was about to return it as faulty, but before I did, I tried upgrading the firmware using the update on the Garmin site. As soon as this had been applied it received a signal and it's been fine ever since.

    Ho ho ho

Chris you spoke my mind. When updating firmware (i think automatically) the gps driver software had disappeared. Easy reinstall

    Sorted 23.30 last night!!
