Campag 8 speed on new wheels?
Is it possible to change the freehub body on 9/10 speed campag hubs to an 8 speed body?
I don't want to upgrade to 9/10 speed as my mechs/levers are in good nick and the chain and cassette are virtually brand new (and budget may be an problem... it's the 'hope the wife doesn't notice' issue again). It's just the wheels are pretty shagged and quite heavy, so I was hoping to get something cheap-ish like Khamsins or Aksiums and run them on 8 speed.
Everything on eBay is either ropy or silly money. So any help or observations gratefully received.

I would buy a 9 speed Veloce cassette (not the ratio I'm looking for, mind!!) and get the Campag spacer 'Kit 03' from somewhere like Condor, drop the largest cog and you have 8 speed on a 9/110 hub.I'd rather walk than use Shimano0

if you don't have an old set of spacers - then I agree with rob
(could just ask around at a lbs if they have an old 8 speed in the bin)0 -
I've got an old 8-speed cassette knocking around; so with the spacers from that I just need the 9 speed cogs, and a spacer for behind the biggest of the 8 remaining cogs then?
Is just swapping the freehub body a goer at all? If I could do that, I would just need to get the wheels.I was only joking when I said

A spacer from Kit 03 takes in to account the thinner 9 speed cog...an 8 speed spacer doesn't.I'd rather walk than use Shimano0 -

Bugger...
The more I look into this the more expensive this is getting. Cheers for the help though.I was only joking when I said

A bag of spacers is a lot cheaper than a new freehub body.I'd rather walk than use Shimano0

The spacer kit is only a tenner and a Mirage or Veloce 9 speed cassette about £15 - a freehub is about £50 - and it might not fit all current models and 8 speed cassettes increasingly hard to find.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

You could forget the new wheels and pick up a second hand set in good nick. 8 speed Campagnolo wheels are pretty cheap for the reason you have just discovered...0

So just to confirm then; it is not possible to take the exisiting 8-speed freehub body off my knackered wheel and put it on a new campag 9/10-speed wheel to use my existing 8-speed cassette.
Sorry if I'm being dull but I don't think anyone has answered this one definitively.I was only joking when I said

Your old freehub body will only work with the same type of wheel, I think.
Use Veloce or Mirage 9sp sprockets with the spacers from an old 8sp cassette, you may need a thin spacer on the freehub first-your LBS will sell/give you a Sturmey Archer spacer which is ideal. Alternatively ,use the above sprockets with a custom made set of spacers as suggested by the other guys.
If you upgrade to 9/10 speed in the future this means your freehub body can still be used.

You're going to have to check with someone like Mercian regarding compatability of an 8 speed freehub on certain 10 speed hubs / wheels.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0
