I'm looking to upgrade the wheels on my spesh allez sport at a budget of ~£150. Is there a clear favourite in this price range/ what do people reccomend?

So far I've been thinking along the lines of Fulcrum racing 5 evolution or Mavic Aksium.

Many thanks,

Olly

    at £150 - I would go for the fulcrum5's - no question

they are a grade above the aksiums which are more on par with the racing7's - the 5's are very well spoke of around here.

other one to look for are the shimano ultegra wheels - which are around the £160 mark - I have the 105 wheels (R561's) from last year - they are very good.

but al considered, I'd personally go for the racing 5's at that price mark. Very smart looking too - will do a good job of upgrading your allez for you!

Don't think you can go wrong with either of the wheelsets you're considering.

I wanted a robust set of wheels around the £150 mark last autumn to sling on my Allez Sport for the winter. Finally opted for a set of Aksiums over the Racing 5 Evos. Can't remember why (possibly the offer at CRC at the time) but I'm quite happy with them.

When I get my DT's switched over to run on my new bike I'm eventually going to invest in a set of Racing 5's as a second set for my Allez and I guess only then will I find out if I've been missing out.

I can get the Fulcrum 5's for £143 on Wiggle due to my 'gold' customer status
They look rather flash as well

Probably a stupid question, but with factory wheelsets does it matter where you order them from, am I correct in assuming they are built up/trued etc at the factory?

I like the look of your DTs Lagavulin...however Im guessing they would be out of my price range.

Also, do factory wheelsets come with rim tape?

    They're £386 a set on Wiggle.

I went completely over the top when I bought them. My original budget was £200-£250. I was considering Fulcrum 5's and Mavic Cosmic Elites but I thought they looked uber cool and convinced myself I'd eventually end up purchasing another bike so bought them with that in mind.
They should look well smart on the Izoard, Orca or 5.2 Madone I hope to purchase soon.

Both sets I've bought did come with tape but its been plastic stuff. Following a spate of rim side punctures I replaced or added Velox to all my wheels. Probably the best value for money cycling items I've invested in I think.

BTW, is that the Specialized Air Tool pump on your frame?

Yep, it's a spesh air tool road, I think I bought it from wiggle.
I want to replace the bottle cage as it looks a bit crude...my lbs just chucked it on when I bought the allez.
I thnk I may as well purchase some velox tape anyway, I have pretty horrible halford own brand rim tape on my mtb so I may get a roll of the MTB stuff as well.

Had to use it yet? Any good?

I haven't invested in CO2 cartridges yet and have found both my mini-pumps (Spesh and Topeak Master Blaster) to be hard work to get to 90-100psi in the comfort of my own home let alone out on the road.

To date I've always called the cavalry (dad) out with either a replacement wheel or the track pump.

It can easily get to ~120psi, however there is no pressure gauge. The valve attachement bit is good, I feel confident in it ( I have a bad habit of snapping presta valves with my minipump)
It weighs around 160g including the frame attachment.

Thanks. Think I might invest in one.

I'm using Fortezza Tricomps and even my best effort in the house with the Pocket Rcket left me thinking I'd probably be just as likely to pick up another puncture as get home safely.

If you're looking for a good pump, this is incredible - nearly as good as a floor/track pump:
