i have converted back to flat pedal from spd for the forseeable future and i notice sk8 shoes vans, etnies, etc, seem to be the popular shoe choice for flat pedals so i bought a pair of airwalk the other day but theyre not very "trail friendly" ie grippy in mud, waterproof and so on. my question is are there better trail shoes for flat pedals?

The main problem with skate style shoes is in the essence that the soles are flat and designed to grip skate boards, thus limiting traction in mud and the like.

Not really sure of anything that would provide more grip, maybe something like merrels :?:

5.10impacts, grip well to the pedals and mud/wet rocks/roots.

  • I recenly bought some flats to practice,my skills on and have been finding my old pair of Timberland trail running shoes,to work quite well.Main problem though is a lack of sole stiffness.

I have my old Shimano MT30 spd shoes which I might take the cleats off and try.

i could have tryed using my spd shoes without the cleat but i used super strong threadlocker to stop the cleat falling out. i suppose it wont be long before a company introduces a waterproof sk8 shoe, would be ace if Geoff Rowleys were waterproof as i used to live near him.

Why did you use threadlock on your cleats, they will be a real pain to replace when they wear out! If they were falling out you can't have tightened them up enough or fitted them correctly.

What does living near a Skater have to do with anything?
