Will there be any issues in running a campag compact chainset with a standard front mech?

I know Campag do CT front mech and also in the '08 range front mech's that both support compact and standard chainsets but I would rather use the front mech that I currently have.

It might not shift quite so well, but it will certainly work.
  • Thanks aracer, I will give it a go and see how I get on.

I've been running a Chorus UT chainset with standard record mech for a year now with no problems.

Works just as well with a standard as with a compact mech. Marketing bullsh1t from Campag, no other manufacturer specifies a dedicated mech.
  • Same here i run record ct with standard front mech!! Like smokin joe says, its just another way of trying to mug money from us!!!

as above, the standard will be fine

I've tried both and the CT mech is a bit better, but it won't lose you a race....

Aye, thought as much. On one bike I have a CT+STD '08 front mech that I got hold of last year and on the winter one I have an 07 standard mech. Thinking of changing to a compact chainset on both, as I seem to be able to spin rather than turn over a big gear.

G Butlers are selling Veloce CT chainsets at half price (non Ultra-Torque ones).

I find that the a standard front mech is inclined to drop the chain on a downshift and the upshift isn't quite as sharp - mech alignment is a bit more critical too. I wouldn't recommend it for racing where an 'off' chain can finish your race.
